Figuring Out Your Future

When you’re in that strange place between childhood and adulthood, it can feel like the future is this huge weight that’s constantly pressing down on you. Everyone around you seems to be constantly telling you that you should be thinking about what you want to do with your life, as though now is the only time that you can make that kind of decision. It can often feel completely and utterly overwhelming to the point that it’s almost impossible to actually make any decisions. The best thing to try and combat that feeling is to break things down so that it doesn’t seem quite so all-encompassing and scary. Here are a few things to remember when you’re trying to figure out what to do next.

Follow what you’re passionate about

 

If you want to figure out what to do with your life, then one of the very best places to start is with your passions. What do you really love to do? Think about your hobbies and interests. While parents and teachers might try to tell you that they are a distraction from more important things like school or college, your hobbies can actually tell you a lot about the kinds of careers that might make you happy. Do you spend every weekend playing sports with your friends and know everything there is no know about your favorite sport? Well, then there’s a good chance that you’d enjoy something in that direction. Even if you’re not playing professionally, there are hundreds of careers available for people with a knowledge and passion for sports of any sort.

Think about stepping stones

One of the biggest mistakes that a lot of kids make is that they assume that whatever decision they make now is going to have to be the thing that they stick with forever. This is far from the truth. Plenty of things that you do can be stepping stones towards what you really want. You might not be in a position to start the career that you really want because you don’t have the right amount of experience, but things like volunteering and internships can give you that experience so that you can go into that career further down the road. Thinking of things in terms of where they are taking you in life, rather than as destinations in and of themselves, is a great way to avoid letting the future seem so big and intimidating.

It’s okay not to know

 

Here’s the big secret that a lot of people won’t tell you: no one really knows what they want to be when they grow up. Even so-called “grown-ups.” If your teachers and parents were really honest, they’d probably tell you that they are just a filled with uncertainty and confusion as you are. There is nothing wrong with feeling like you don’t have a clear direction to follow. Sometimes you have to try a bunch of things and see what sticks. Life is long, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take your time and figure out what you want to do at your own pace.

Are You Getting The Most Out Of Your Studies?

Whether you are at college, university or any other educational institution, you probably have times when you wonder if you will make it through. All students have experienced this feeling of not being entirely confident in their abilities, and if you suffer this it is worth remembering that others have been there before. Of course, there are many things you can do to ensure that you get as much out of your time in education as possible, and it’s a good idea to learn what those are. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can get the most out of your studies.

Find A Balance

If you are a good student, you will probably spend a lot of your time thinking about your studies. This is often a good sign, as it means that you are taking it seriously. But you should also remember that studying is not everything – there are many other aspects of life which are just as important, and it’s healthy and helpful to focus on those as well. Of course, you don’t want to focus on them so strongly that it is to the detriment of your studies – and that is where the notion of finding a good balance comes into it. Work hard to get to a place of harmony with your schoolwork – that way, you will be able to enjoy your studying, and the rest of what life has to offer, much more.

Use All The Help You Can Get

When you do feel a little stressed or overwhelmed by it all, it can be useful to remind yourself that there is always plenty of help to be had. This help actually comes in so many forms that we often completely forget about it. But if you stop and think about it, you will realise that there is help all around you. You can consider asking your friends for assistance, especially those who are taking the same course as you. Your family will often be a good kind of support as well. Let’s not forget the Internet, too – online you can find thousand of useful studying apps such as https://gradebuddy.com/, and these can make a huge difference to your studies. Make the most of whatever help is available, and remember that there is no shame in asking for help if you really need it. Be Honest About Your Interests

There’s nothing worse than waking up one day and realising that you are taking the wrong course – that, actually, you’re not all that interested in your subject, but would rather do something else instead. But if this does happen, respect the change that is happening within you. It is much better to go with the flow than to doggedly finish a course you don’t really care for anymore. Make sure you are honest with yourself about what you really find interesting and what you really want, and you will be able to have a much better time of it on the whole.

3 Things I’ve Learned in My 2 Years Of Blogging

I’m very late on this one, but my blog turned two years old in February and I seriously cannot believe it. It’s been an amazing opportunity and a great outlet for me to be creative and share my passion about cruelty free beauty. It’s also been a tough journey, but I’ve learned a lot over the two past years and I hope this post will help you learn something too – especially if you’re interested in starting a blog!

It’s not as easy as it looks.

Two years ago when I started Rae Chic, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and how much work having a blog actually is. It’s a lot of frustrations. Ex: when the pictures you took don’t look as good as you thought they were, when the post just isn’t pulling together or when you’re in a blogging funk and can’t seem to get out of it. It’s also hard to make engaging posts that people will actually read and interact with (something that I’m not certain if I’ve mastered yet…lol def not). It may not be easy, but it is really rewarding and it’s enjoyable for me. It’s totally worth all the hiccups.

Value yourself.

Don’t sell yourself short just because you don’t have hundreds of thousands of followers on your social media platforms. That takes a lot of time, effort (and beauty, ha…jk). As a blogger, you are doing a business a solid if they contact you for an opportunity – just don’t sell yourself short. Make sure to negotiate with brands so that the opportunity is worth it for you, for them and for your followers. Don’t just take an opportunity because a brand contacted you – make sure it relates to your content and the message you’re trying to get across. Free products are nice, but they don’t pay the bills – remember that!

Don’t compare yourself to others.

No two blogs are the same – and that’s a good thing. Be different. Blog about different things. Blog about what you want to blog about, and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Just because someone else has more followers than you doesn’t mean that they’re better than you and doesn’t mean that you need to blog like them. Quit comparing numbers and start comparing quality (quality > quantity). Don’t worry if they started blogging after you and have a larger number, you will grow too – it just takes time and the right posts + SEO.

3 Awesome Sports To Try And Their Benefits

Getting fit is really important, whatever age you are. It’s never too late to change your habits and start shaping up. You shouldn’t just do this for the way you look though. You should do it for all of the health benefits you get, such as fighting off illness and disease, living longer, and staying mobile in old age. Looking good is just a bonus. Plus, you’ll feel great thanks to all of the serotonin and endorphins.

You should never think of sport or exercise as a chore. It should be fun! If you’re not finding it fun, then you’re doing the wrong thing. Different forms of exercise suit different people, so finding what works for you and then rolling with it is the best thing to do. If you’d like to get into some kind of sport, here are 3 awesome sports you can try and their benefits:

Swimming

Swimming is an amazing all over body workout that just about anybody can try. Whether you’re 18 or 80, swimming can help you to make awesome progressions in your body and training. It can complement a current training plan, or it can become your only means of getting fit. You can incorporate it however you like and enjoy the benefits!

One of the best things about swimming is that it’s a low impact form of exercise. That means that it puts very little pressure on your joints, unlike running. Although it doesn’t put pressure on your joints, it still burns a ton of calories and works the muscles all over your body. To get the most out of your swimming sessions, make sure you work on improving your form each time you go. You should try to swim with your face in the water, kicking your legs as little as possible, so you’re not expending too much energy and you can keep your body straight. Aim to swim for longer or do more laps each time.

Basketball

Basketball will put a little more pressure on your joints, unlike swimming, as it’s a very fast paced sport. As it’s so intense, you can burn a ton of calories while you play, not to mention build muscle in your legs from all the jumping you’ll be doing. Your gym will likely give you school gym equipment to use, but this won’t impact your play at all. The wonderful thing about basketball is that it’s so fun, you’ll barely notice you’re exercising at all!

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing will make you feel pain in muscles that you never knew you had. You’re using your entire body when you rock climb. You’re using your legs to push up, and your arms to pull you from place to place. It can improve many other skills too, as you’re always choosing the best place to put your hands/feet before you make another move. Don’t worry if you’re not ready to climb rock faces just yet. You can find lots of indoor places to rock climb where you’re safely strapped in.

What Have I Been Up To?

Have you ever been in a point of your life where you lose interest in pretty much everything? You’re always bored, always tired, always hungry? I have these stages quite often, which is due to my mental health – that’s why I took some time off from blogging to focus on myself and school. If you’re interested in what I’ve been up to, keep on reading!

I unplugged.

Social media consumes us. We become obsessed with it and feel lost or left behind without it. Social media also makes you feel alone and makes you jealous (well for me at least it does). I needed to unplug myself from social media so I could better myself and work on my self esteem, as well as how much time I spend with others. I also feel like social media drains me, since I’m so involved with other people’s profiles and my own. It was nice to unplug for a little bit, the feelings of FOMO went away after a few days and I actually became more productive. I suggest it if you’re in a funk.

I slept.

Sleeping is my escape, which may be a good thing or a bad thing. I forget about all of my problems and it’s just an easier way to relax. My boyfriend definitely says I sleep too much, but it makes me feel better.

I designed.

By that, I mean worked on my school projects. For my advanced graphic design class we just finished a personal branding project. Now, we have to make a program for our art exhibit on campus – I’ve had like 5 different variations and can’t seem to figure out what one I’m actually settled on but I think my newest design is a winner and my professor seemed to like it. For my package design class, I just finished up a 3D CD case for the 1975 – I struggled with this one so much. I had to spend so much money printing it and nearly every time it printed wrong unfortunately. It caused me a lot of frustration and at the end of the project I was so done with it, I just kind of said fuck it and handed in what I could (it was completed, don’t worry! just not as good as a final product that I hoped.) The next project for this class is to create a 3D promotional piece for a non-profit, I decided to contact A21 to see if they would be okay with me working on this project (also to give me experience with clients) and they agreed! They can’t use it the finished product though since they are undergoing a rebrand at the moment. I’m thinking of making a cool fold out mailer – let me know if you guys want to see some of my design stuff or if you want me to create a separate blog for my designs? For my typeface design class, I’m naturally creating a typeface. I’m creating a monospace uppercase type called Halcyon, it’s still in the works and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it downloadable, but I’ll let you know. I’m also in two art classes, but I mainly work in class for those assignments.

I went on vacation.

I just got back from a 4-night cruise with Royal Caribbean. We left Miami, went to Key West, sailed for a day, stopped at Nassau in the Bahamas then headed back to Miami. If you’re interested in hearing all about my cruise, let me know so I can get that post up for you (with lots of pictures!)

I learned a lot.

About myself, and about others. I’ll just leave it at that. 🙂

I’m slowly getting my motivation back to get back into the swing of things, I’m also trying not to rush it and just letting it come naturally.
