Avoid These Common Products In Your Beauty Routine

Looking your best can often seem like something of a challenge to achieve. One of the biggest elements of this is always going to be deciding on what products to use. Whether it is the skin cream, the shampoo and conditioner, or the moisturizer, you want to make sure that you are making as many of the right decisions as possible. As it happens, there are a number of common products and chemicals which people put onto their skin or in their hair which are actually incredibly dangerous and damaging. If you want to look your best without paying a price, be sure to avoid the following.

Hair Dyes

Wanting to change the color of your hair is pretty common, and a fair enough goal. But the problem with many mainstream hair dyes is that they can actually be extremely damaging to your hair follicles. Many studies over the course of quite a few years have shown that hair dyes are related to a number of serious conditions, including bladder cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. You can also develop a tolerance to the chemicals which can mean that you end up with a pretty horrendous rash. Instead of using hair dye, you can lighten your color effectively with lemon juice, or use tea to cover any grey areas.

Sulfate Shampoos

The choice of shampoo is pretty important too, and it is worth looking into if you are keen to keep your body as clear of potentially dangerous chemicals as possible. A common dangerous chemical in shampoos is sulfate, which over time can cause significant damage to your hair in a number of ways. Unfortunately, many of the most popular products on the market have a good deal of sulfate in them, so avoiding this might be harder than you think. However, if you look through these best sulfate free shampoos you will definitely be off to a good start. You will likely notice the difference in how your hair feels, too. My favorite brand of cruelty free + sulfate free shampoo is Hask!

Bad news for perfume lovers. As it turns out, many of the most popular perfumes on the market contain harmful secret ingredients which can actually lead to a number of serious problems later on in life. Many of these chemicals are related to hormone deficiencies, allergic reactions and even rare cases of cancer. There are also cases of it triggering asthma (even in nearby people to the person wearing it), migraines and nausea. Best avoided if you can help it – go for lesser-known indie perfumes which you can find online – and make sure they are always cruelty-free too.

By avoiding the three above, you will be on the right path towards ensuring that you are keeping your body as healthy as possible. It can be surprising how many harmful chemicals are in these products, so it is best to avoid them where possible – and always research a new product before switching.

I hope you enjoyed the post! What things do you avoid in your beauty routine? Let me know! 🙂

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Foxbrim Haul + Review* | 2

Hi my loves! If you missed out on my past review of products from Foxbrim, click here to read it!

So for my first post about Foxbrim, I was able to have a friend take some amazing pictures for me and I tried to get my boyfriend to take some, but he definitely is not an Instagram Husband by any means, haha, so I apologize for just the product shots. I wanted to try something new out with my pictures, so let me know if you like the fairy lights? I’m always looking for feedback! In this package from Foxbrim, I got some hair care products and some skincare products which I’ve been trying out to share what I think with you!

Natural Soap & Wash // $16.95

This is an all purpose wash – it’s good for your face, hands, hair, and body! Since it contains natural ingredients, it’s going to be gentle on your skin and is safe for sensitive skin types. I’ve used this on my face and was really surprised, it didn’t dry me out at all and evened out my skin-tone! I also love that this is a multi-purpose wash so it’s good to bring with you on travel to save space in your bag! It’s also a decent size so it’s a good buy for families, especially because a little bit goes a long way.

Argan Oil Hair Repair // $26.95

I’ve always been afraid of hair oils just because I don’t want my hair to get too greasy too quickly, but hair oils can actually be really effective on the hair. My hair is pretty dry since I’m a blonde, it’s also incredibly fine and thin so I need all the help I can get. This hair repair oil is formulated with argan oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil – which are really beneficial for your hair! You apply this to dry hair, leave it on for two-hours or overnight, then wash your hair with shampoo to make sure all of the oil gets out. You can also use this as a styling oil and I must say – I’m super impressed with this! My ends look SO much better and you can tell the difference. It is a bit pricey, but a little bit goes a long way and I really think it’s worth it, especially if you use a lot of heat on your hair (personally, I don’t but I still have everyday damage on my hair).

Soft & Light Detangler Spray // $15.95

This has been a lifesaver for me! Having hard water (lots of minerals in my water) puts a toll on my hair and dries it out and also makes it difficult to brush. I’m so happy I found this detangler spray! It works really well and doesn’t take a lot of product to do it’s job (I bet you’re seeing a trend here). You’re probably wondering what “soft & light” means, right? The soft comes from how your hair will be after you use it, and the light is because it won’t weigh your beautiful locks down! My hair gets greasy pretty quickly and I’m surprised that this doesn’t make it worse but it really doesn’t. It just makes it easier to brush my hair and leaves it nice and shiny and smooth. I definitely recommend getting this!

Argan Oil+ Shampoo // $15.95

I guess I’ll just continue on with the hair care products! Aloe, argan oil, B5 + more ingredients work together to do wonders on your hair. I’m not a fan of the smell of the shampoo, but that does go away after you use your conditioner afterward (plus, I also use the detangler spray and that smells good!) I’ve noticed that after immediate use of the shampoo my hair feels a little dry, which is why I only use it a couple times a week. I make sure to rinse it really well and give my hair a minute to soak up my conditioner before rinsing it out, but other than that & the smell, I do really like it. I have seen an improvement with breakage, especially since I’m using some of their other hair care products. If you’re looking for a natural shampoo, definitely check this one out!

Exfoliating Tea Face Scrub // $16.95

I love scrubs. I don’t really know why, but I just do. My shower is full of different ones for my body but I haven’t tried out a new facial scrub yet so I was excited to try this out. It has a pump bottle, which was new to me since most scrubs come in a tube or a jar. So as you guys know, I’ve been getting a lot of hormonal acne lately and there’s not a ton that I can do about it, but I can try to reduce redness and prevent future breakouts. I love this face scrub because it’s gentle and won’t irritate my skin any more than it already is. It’s also full of anti-aging and antioxidant ingredients, so that’s definitely a plus. I feel like it really balances my skin and I’ve been using it a couple times a week and I’ve been loving the results!

Makeup Remover & Facial Oil // $13.95

Lastly, I received this makeup remover/facial oil. I feel like facial oils are all over the market now and people are swearing by them and after using this, I can see why! I love that this is a makeup remover and facial oil in one. I feel like most makeup removers don’t do their job completely, or they strip the skin of all the natural oils that we need. The oils help to break down your makeup while hydrating and nourishing your skin, so no irritating cleansers are needed which I love. I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup lately, so I mainly use this on my eyes and it takes off mascara so quickly + the oils will help to hydrate my lashes!

I hope you enjoyed the post! Do you see anything you want to try? Let me know!

Why You Should Care About Cruelty Free Cosmetics

It’s been over two years since I started my cruelty-free journey and this blog. I have learned a lot about what cruelty-free means and I have been able to teach my friends, family, and readers about animal testing and why it needs to end. I feel like everyone is aware of animal testing but it’s when we turn our awareness into caring and become advocates in the fight against animal testing. Here’s why you should care about purchasing cruelty-free cosmetics.

It’s inhumane.

What got me interesting in learning about animal testing is a project I was assigned my freshman year in college. For my computer graphic design class, we had to pick a social topic and a word to describe both sides of the “argument” then create two posters that showed both sides. I did some research and came along animal testing, I used this site as a source for my project and was astonished that they still tested on animals even though there are alternate testing methods that leave animals out of the picture. A lot of companies claim that they test humanely, hence why I chose the word humane for both of my posters. There’s absolutely nothing humane about forcing chemicals onto (or even into) animals. Animals do not deserve to sit in cages all day and be tortured. Period.

It’s unnecessary.

Like I stated above, there are alternative testing methods that don’t harm animals. Many argue that there is no other way, but there is! In history, numerous things have been tested on animals and have been deemed safe or unsafe, therefore we don’t need to keep testing said ingredients on animals if they have already come to a conclusion about them. (A lot of safe ingredients are STILL being used to test on animals, which is unnecessary since they’ve already passed previous tests, correct?) We have come so far with technology that we have invented new ways to test products or ingredients – which is also cheaper than testing on animals! P.s. Animals don’t wear cosmetics, so why do we inject stuff into their eyes? Doesn’t make any sense.

It’s more than just bunnies and mice – it’s other animals too.

Yup, you heard that right. Did you know that beagles are the most commonly used dog breed for animal testing? And do you want to know why they use beagles? It’s because they’re naturally trusting of humans and they’re docile – so basically, they use that to their advantage in the lab and abuse those poor babies that just want to be loved. Totally uncalled for. Not to mention, most of the tests done on animals go wrong, so then those poor animals just get euthanized with no chance at a normal life.

It’s not accurate.

If you haven’t noticed, you aren’t a mouse, or a guinea pig, or a fish…so why do laboratories test on these animals when we really aren’t like them? “92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work” (Source). We aren’t wired the same as the animals that they test on – just like some humans have more sensitive skin than others. We have completely different body make ups, hence why we shouldn’t be testing on animals since these products/chemicals/drugs/ingredients could react totally different in a human beings body. THERE ARE OTHER TESTING METHODS OUT THERE, yo, laboratories get with the program! Stop testing on animals.

Now, as an ending note I would like to clarify a few things in case the comments get heated (I don’t think they will but you never know). 1.) Animal testing has been done for years and years and years. We are now in 2017, we have a list of ingredients that are safe and we don’t need to continue to test on animals if we know what ingredients are safe,

1.) Animal testing has been done for years and years and years. We are now in 2017, we have a list of ingredients that are safe and we don’t need to continue to test on animals if we know what ingredients are safe, kapeesh?

2.) Animal testing has contributed to life-saving procedures as well as medicine. Now, this is where it gets a little weary and confusing. There are some things in life that we won’t be able to get that haven’t been tested on animals – like medicine. BUT, there is a HUGE difference between testing medicine and testing VANITY products on animals. Just because you know that there are some things that have been tested on animals that you need, doesn’t mean you should just give up on buying cruelty-free products. Your dollar is your vote and you buying from L’Oreal, MAC, etc isn’t going to fix the problem – you’re contributing to it. MAC claims that they are in the fight against animal testing and only test where required by law and that’s a load of crap. They still sell in China even though they KNOW that China requires them to test their cosmetics by law, so they are not in the fight to stop animal testing. (This is just MY opinion, it’s not a “cruelty-free” law y’know).

3.) Start somewhere. Whether it’s purchasing a cruelty-free foundation or mascara, that’s a start. You don’t have to replace every single makeup product you own today just because I’ve been talking about animal testing, but when you go to purchase new items – take a second, think about it, and support cruelty-free brands (there are plenty out there)!

Not sure where to start? Check out my cruelty-free on a budget posts, my posts featuring cruelty-free products, and check out Logical Harmony for a HUGE list of cruelty-free brands!

I hope you enjoyed the post. Sorry if it seemed all over the place, I saw another blog post that kind of ticked me off so I decided to write about my side and why I am a cruelty-free beauty blogger.

Foxbrim Haul + Review *

Hey my loves! Another haul comin’ at chu. Today is all about Foxbrim, a cruelty-free company who offers organic, natural skincare and hair care products, which are also affordable!

(P.s. Shout out to my friend Emily for some great pictures that I wouldn’t have been able to get on my own!)

This is by far one of my favorite products that I’ve ever tried. I have stretch marks on the back of my thighs that kind of just appeared out of nowhere and I’m really insecure about them (like not wanting to wear shorts, insecure about them). I’ve always been kind of skeptical about stretch mark creams or similar products but decided to give this one a go since it contains rosehip oil and I’ve heard that it’s good for scars and marks. I tried this at night and the next morning one of my stretch marks was faded and wasn’t as deep as it used to be (if I ran my fingers over it I could feel the indentation…) I was seriously so surprised. I apply it at least once every day, usually before bed but it is suggested to use it twice a day. I definitely recommend the Revitalizing Stretch Mark Oil, it’s what dreams are made of.

The Ocean Mineral Lotion has been my go to in the morning. It’s lightweight and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy, plus it smells good! I love that it has hyaluronic acid in it because it helps with aging and I’ve gotten so many compliments on my skin since using this.

Another thing I like to use in the morning! The Lavender Mist Toner is so refreshing on the skin and it has beneficial ingredients in it to fight redness and inflammation, and the lavender essential oil helps to reduce stress and calm you down.

*insert goofy pic here*

This has been my go-to cleanser lately now that my acne has calmed down a little. The Coconut Mil + Honey Facial Cleanser has vitamin E oil in it, aloe vera, honey and more to give you a gentle but effective cleanse. It’s so gentle on the skin and helps to balance out my oily-ness.

The Ultimate Renewal Scar Cream is perfect for acne scars, dark spots or other parts of your body! I’ve been using it on some of my acne scars and so far, so good. It’s been lightening the spots and helps to heal the skin. The bottle is smaller than the other products, but you don’t really need a lot of it for it to do it’s job!

I also have a discount code for my readers. Get 15% off ANY and ALL Foxbrim products with the code “RAECHIC15”!

I hope you enjoyed the post. Are you interested in any of these from Foxbrim?! Let me know 🙂

Lush Haul + Mini Review

Hey my loves! I recently went to my local Lush store and fell in love with all of their options. I’ve shopped online with them in the past, but definitely enjoyed going to the store more! I wasn’t really sure what to pick out so I decided to grab the Hello Gorgeous gift set so I could try out a good amount of different products! It was $42.50 for the gift box and it contained 6 items, a mix of bath and shower products + skincare!

Ro’s Argan smells absolutely amazing and feels great on the skin too! This has a generous amount in it so I know I’ll definitely be getting a lot of use out of it – and when this one is done, I’m totally getting the full sized! It says to use it while you’re still in the shower, but I don’t, I just apply it like a regular body lotion. I know, I’m breakin’ the rules but you gotta do what you gotta do.

So this is a teeeeny sample of the Gorgeous moisturizer, which costs $90 for the full sized *yikes*. The girl at Lush told me that this sample should last me three weeks (lol, what?) so that I can get a good feel for it and see if it works with my skincare routine, since it takes about a month for stuff to start working for you. I have not tried it yet, mainly because I’m doing well with my current skincare routine and I’m not sure how this would be on my skin but also because the container is incredibly hard to open (or maybe I’m just a lil’ pathetic).

I’m really excited to try this shower cream out! The Comforter smells soooo good and it looks gorgeous in the bottle. I haven’t used it yet since I’ve been trying to use up the body wash in my shower right now but I’m ready to just ditch what I have and finally give this a go. I’ve heard so many good things about their shower creams and I love that they’re affordable and natural!

The Comforter also comes in a bubble bar! I’m pretty sure I tried one of their bubble bars before, but I was confused on how to use it, but this time I figured it out! I took a bath the other night and broke off a couple chunks of this and ran it under the water, it made the water a pretty pink color and added some nice bubbles which reminded me of my childhood! (Bubble baths were the shhhhizz). This isn’t full sized but you can definitely get a couple of uses out of it.

This bath bomb totally reminds me of a jawbreaker, anyone else? Sakura is a bath bomb that totally relaxes you. It smells really good and my skin felt incredibly soft after getting out of the tub. A lot of reviews on the Lush website don’t sound too good about this one, but I really liked it since the scent was subtle and not overwhelming like some other products I’ve tried. Very mellow and very calming, very much like.

This is the Rub Rub Rub body scrub and it smells incredible. I took it out of the bag to take a picture of it and I was blown away at how good it smells, definitely floral like the other products in the gift set. I like the color too! I haven’t used this one yet, since I’m still working on a body scrub that I have in my shower but I will definitely give this one a go. I think it might be a new favorite of mine!

I also grabbed two things in addition to the gift set.

This is my new favorite thing. As you guys know, I’ve been having a lot of problems with my skin and my acne since my birth control is the legit devil. I’ve tried tons of different things and most of them were slightly successful but not entirely successful if you know what I mean? I wanted to try this out since I know tea tree water is good for acne spots and killing bacteria and all that kind of stuff. This is a toner water that feels so refreshing on the skin, it’s now a must for me. It doesn’t dry me out like I expected it to and helps my skin stay balanced. I spray it on my face before bed and in the morning to freshen up. I highly recommend it! I’ve been using it like crazy, I might need to get another one soon.

Lastly, Lush works with charities and I love that about them. This is the shark fin soap and it’s super cute and I love the message behind it. This year 100% of the proceeds from this bar of soap will support the completion Rob Stewart’s newest documentary Sharkwater: Extinction – all extra funds will be used to continue his legacy to help save sharks and the ocean which I think is amazing! This soap is sold out on their website but I’m not sure if you can still get it in store – I’m happy I got it when I did.

Soooo, I may become a Lush addict now, especially since there’s one only 20 minutes away from me…do you have any Lush recommendations for me? Let me know!

I hope you enjoyed the post!

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3
