My Beauty Wishlist | Summer 2016

by

beautywishlist

I usually impulsively buy things for no reason, so I’m trying to be good and keeping wishlists so I can buy stuff for when I run out of the items I’m already using, even though this wishlist doesn’t really include anything I use daily, but you know what I mean, right? I also just like wishlist posts so I can see what other people are lusting after, I find that it usually introduces me to new brands and products, so without further adieu, let’s get wishin’!

Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Mud Mask

I’ve been going a lil’ mask crazy lately because I’ve been having a lot of hormonal breakouts (due to my birth control), so I’ll try anything that I think would help. This mask from Freeman is supposedly a dupe/alternative to the GlamGlow Super-Mud mask so I would like to try it out because GlamGlow isn’t cruelty free (as far as I know) and it’s way more affordable than the $70 mask. I’m hoping to go to an Ulta by me soon to check this out and some other masks. I just really haven’t found anything yet that’s really cleared up my skin so I’m hoping if I try this someday, it’ll do the job.

Wet n Wild Fan Brush

I’ve heard a lot of people raving about the Wet n Wild brushes, I just never got around to purchasing them. I want this fan brush to apply highlighter, because fan brushes are the ones that people seem to be using for highlighting, I honestly just use my finger, but I want to try something new. I also thought why not give this brush a try? Because it’s under $5, so you really can’t go wrong.

Kat Von D Lock-it Concealer in White Out (Or my shade)

Everyone’s been going crazy about Kat’s new release and I’m so full of envy when I see people on Snapchat open their PR packages from her haha. I think white concealer is unique (I’ve personally never seen it before) and I wonder if it would actually work for me, since I’m so light. I am kind of afraid to leap in and get the white, incase it doesn’t work out for me, so maybe I would grab the proper shade for me. By the product picture, it looks like I’d love the type of applicator it has since it’s not a normal dove foot (maybe I’m just making things up? Who knows). It’s a pretty pricey concealer but I’m just curious to see how it would work out!

Zabana Essentials Lavender Lemongrass Face & Body Tonic

I haven’t tried anything from Zabana Essentials, but I was browsing their website, and I want it all! They have two different types of face & body tonics, and I think the Lavender Lemongrass one would be best for me since it’s a balancing + detoxifying one (The other one is a brightening + rejuvenating one…but maybe I should just get both and get the best of both worlds.)

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea H20 Hydrating Boost

This is a gel-like moisturizer and I love it. I got a sample in a discovery set from Sephora with some other Rainforest of the Sea goodies. It’s super hydrating and doesn’t irritate my skin or clog my pores. My face also doesn’t feel sticky after using it, like other moisturizers do. It is quite pricey ($40), but I do like it. (If you know of any cheaper alternatives, let me know!)

Zabana Essentials Facial Steamer

I think this product is a cool concept, and again, I’ll try anything to try to clear up my skin! You add one steamer (I think) to a bowl of hot water and drape a towel over your head to let the steam open your pores, so the steamer can do it’s job. I feel like this would be super relaxing on a pampering night and I realllllly want to try these out asap!

Thanks for reading, as always <3

ColourPop Haul with Swatches

by

boxfromcolourpop

Again, someone please take my debit card away from me…I can’t stop buying makeup! I love love love ColourPop so of course I had to buy some new goodies to try out and share with you all. ColourPop is one of my favorite brands because their products are so affordable and the quality is absolutely outstanding for what you pay. They have a variety of products ranging from lipsticks, eyeliners, eyeshadows, brow products and cheek/highlighter products. There is honestly something for everyone and their prices range from $5-$8 for a single item and usually $20+ if you are getting a collection of stuff. I picked up a variety of things (some products I have tried before and some I haven’t!)

colourpophaul

ColourPop usually warns that their processing + shipping time may be longer due to a higher demand, but I’ve never had a problem with their packages. Everything has been shipped out quickly and processed quickly too (I know that’s not the case for everyone.)

I picked up 8 items, one of them was an eyeshadow quad set that Kathleen Lights had collaborated with ColourPop to make.

wherethelightis1 wherethelightis2

wherethelightis3

I have tried their shadows before (Hanky Panky, to be exact) and I absolutely love the formula and how unique it is. They’re SO creamy and pigmented and have great wear power to them. They suggest to keep the packages closed tightly so the shadows don’t dry out.

glowcloseup

Here’s a close up shot of Glow from the Where The Light Is collection. I love the texture that’s on their shadows. I’m not sure how much product you get in each, but these colors can be bought individually.

kathleenlightswatch

Here are the swatches from the Where The Light Is collection that I labeled for you. Their matte shadows are truly matte and aren’t powdery on the skin because of their super awesome creamy formula. Glow and Cornelious are mattes and Blaze and KathleenLights are metallics/shimmers. I feel like you could create a couple looks with this quad set. Blaze is a super amazing color and I can’t wait to play with it! KathleenLights is also a super gorgeous copper color that I’m excited to play with too.

shadowswatch

And in case you didn’t believe me about their wear power…I used a makeup remover wipe on the swatches just minutes after swatching them and they stained me until I rubbed a little bit harder (I had to use a micellar water) but I’m definitely not complaining. I want shadows that won’t fade throughout the day.

cpweenie cpweenie2 cpweenie3

Showing some more love to Kathleen, here’s her shade Weenie (I’m really not sure why Weenie is showing up as a bronze color because it definitely is a beautiful rose gold shade).

cpweenieswatch

Here’s a swatch of Weenie on my pale arm! Looks a little more true to color here (I guess I won’t take my blog photos at night anymore!)

stoletheshow stoletheshow2 stoletheshow3This Super Shock Cheek Highlighter in Stole the Show was one of the different products I tried out. This was $8 but is bigger than the shadows. No cool texture on it though, like there is on the shadows, what a bummer. This has the same creamy, soft texture and formula like the shadows do. I really like this highlight because it’s not too showy/flashy and looks really nice on the skin. (I think I bought this because Jeffree Starr was raving about it).

stoletheshowswatch

This is a crappy iPhone quality photo, but my camera wasn’t doing my swatch pictures any justice. But it’s a very nice highlight for my fellow pale girls (or even those who like white highlights!)

showmeliner showmeliner2

I also have never tried their liners before so I really wanted to, since I’ve heard good reviews. I picked up Show Me from their créme liner collection (they have the liners in gel form too!) I was seriously SO surprised how well this liner sat on my waterline. I’ve always had issues with my liner rubbing off my waterline and making a mess, or creating a ring around my contact lens…this liner was amazing. It stayed put all day, literally. Fully intact, didn’t fade, didn’t more. It was awesome! I wore it on my waterline and as a winged liner one day too, and even with me fiddling with my eyes (I’m an eye rubber) it really didn’t smudge or fade. I’m really amazed and now I want every color of liner they have. I highly recommend this color (& it looks great with blue eyes, totally made mine POP!)

showmelinerswatch

Here’s a swatch of Show Me liner. It’s so creamy and pigmented and smooth and dreamy and ahhhh, I love it.

showmelinerswatch2

I wanted to compare Show Me to a higher end brand liner I have which I swatched below ColourPop’s liner. It’s the Jac B. Bronze liner from theBalm. It’s $17 and probably has the same amount of product as ColourPop’s liners. I prefer the ColourPop one for three reasons: the price difference, the pigmentation and how creamy their formula is (theBalm’s formula is a little stiff and hard to work with).

grungelippie grungelippie2

I’ve tried their lippie stix before and have shown you some swatches on le blog and on my YouTube channel. I wanted to try out a new color for fall, so I got Grunge, which is honestly a really intimidating color for me since I’m so pale. I haven’t tried it on my lips yet, but I did swatch it on my hand and it looks like it would be a great color for fall. It’s definitely that 90’s babe color. It’s also a matte finish, which I do like, but only in their lippie stix (me + the ultra matte lips do not get along). Although it is matte, it applies creamy and smooth and dries down well. They have great staying power + staining power, so keep the coconut oil handy to help get the color off!

grungeswatch

Here’s a poorly lit swatch of GrungeI’m glad to have it in my collection since I haven’t had a color like this before.

ultrasatinlips

And lastly, I bought three new ultra satin lips to add to my collection. I got Dopey, Spritz and LittlestitiousI love the ultra satin lips, because they aren’t too glossy and aren’t too matte – I would really call them like a semi-matte finish, but it looks natural. They aren’t transfer proof but they are a perfect formula for everyday wear. I wish they had more colors in the ultra satin line, but I’m sure that they’re working on it! I apparently like pinky/purpley colors on the lips, since my two other ultra satin lips aren’t too far off in color (I’m really good at buying similar colors).

ultrasatinlipswatch

Another poorly lit swatch photo, they definitely aren’t this deep/dark in person – but they are beautiful shades and if you are considering buying some, I definitely recommend the colors I got!

Are you a fan of ColourPop? What’s your favorite product from them? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed the post!

Too Faced Haul from Ulta (Primer, Mascara & Melted Lipstick!)

by

toofacedprod toofacedprod2

Too Faced is such an amazing brand, even though they are on the pricey side, I just can’t help myself. I picked up a couple items from Ulta and received a Melted lipstick for free with my purchase (so definitely check out all of the deals before finalizing your order!)

hangoverprimer hangoverprimer2 hangoverprimer3

I don’t really wear primers, just because the ones that I have used just don’t sit well on my skin and leave me feeling greasy but I heard good things about this primer, so I wanted to try it out (I haven’t yet, but I’ll elaborate on why I wanted to get it). It’s a “replenishing” primer, so it hydrates, smoothes and brightens skin for a dewy, healthy looking finish. My skin type has changed slightly, I’m not as dry as I used to be (I had bad dry patches) but I do still feel like my skin is dry and needs some extra hydration, so I’m hoping that this primer does the trick without feeling icky on my skin. Too Faced says that you can wear this on its own for a dewy, healthy finish, which I think is super cool because foundation can be too much sometimes.

meltedlip2 meltedlip

So here’s the free gift that I received, since I spent over $25 on Too Faced at Ulta. I believe this is a deluxe sample size and I got the shade Chihuahua (which I think is the only one they were offering). I do have another one of these melted lipsticks, in a bright pink so I think this color would better suit me since it’s more of a nude. Check out the swatches below! The color is so beautiful, I almost felt guilty using so much for a swatch.

meltedswatch2 meltedswatch

bts4 bts3

And lastly, the show stopper. I love the Better Than Sex mascara, so I just had to get the waterproof version (I’ve heard that waterproof mascara holds a curl better – is that true? Who knows.) I love love LOVE the packaging. Too Faced has such amazing packaging, I honestly can’t get over it. That’s one of the reasons why I love their brand, they care about how their products look and how they’re presented. The original Better Than Sex is in a pink aluminum-like tube without any texture. This one is in a gorgeous blue color with a super cool raised water drop texture on it, it’s drool worthy! The mascara tube is a little bit “heavy” but that just makes me feel like it’s made out of high quality materials (am I just sounding like a goof? Probably.)

bts2 betterthansex

I have used it a couple times, and I do really like it. The original Better Than Sex that I was using was an old deluxe sample and I noticed that it did tend to flake and didn’t have too much volume or color payoff, so I’m super glad that this one works better than the one I was using. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a new lengthening & volumizing mascara – it’s flipping fantastic.

Hope you enjoyed my little haul 🙂 I’ve been spending way too much money on makeup lately and I do have a Colourpop shipment coming in soon, so I guess stay tuned for a Colourpop haul in the future weeks.

What’s your favorite Too Faced Product? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

LITTLE BOX OF GOOD | bonJOY May Monthly

by

2016-06-01 10.39.51 2016-06-01 10.40.10

Hey lovelies! How are you doing today? Good? Great! I’m doing fabulous.

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 10.23.43 PM

(from their website)

Today I wanted to show you a special box, that I’m very happy that I found. bonJOY is a monthly or seasonal box filled with goodies that DO GOOD! (They also have bitty bundles that contain a few items and are the perfect gift item.)

You may think that slavery is a thing of the past – but think again. Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, either for forced labor or sex trafficking. Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern-day slavery. (Source) It’s a scary and a real thing. The products in these monthly or seasonal boxes do good for trafficked, exploited and at-risk women around the world and that’s something that I totally support. I’m all about empowerment, and helping others in need.

Now that you’ve heard the story, I’m sure you want to see what’s in this little box of good

2016-06-01 10.41.13

Above is an inspirational quote, which was designed by Cassandra from Chic for Good (her blog is great, so do check it out!) I love cute stationery that I can hang up near my desk (which I will be doing with this).

2016-06-01 10.41.46

On the back of the print from Chic for Good lists all of the products in the box and displays the current give-back partner (they donate $1 from every box to the partner and you have the option to make a donation as well).

2016-06-01 10.42.54-2

Here’s a ton of information about the products/companies featured in this month’s box that was in the yellow envelope!

2016-06-01 10.43.33 2016-06-01 10.43.54

2016-06-01 10.44.21

First up is this himalayan sea salt bath soak (that smells fabulous!) Revive donates a portion of every sale to provide job training skills to women exiting the trafficking trade. Revive has tons of different types of soaps, bath soaks, lip balms and other bath goodies.

2016-06-01 10.44.48 2016-06-01 10.45.09-1

I’m a sucker for jewelry, so take a look at this super simple, but super chic vegan bracelet from BADALABADALA has housewares and beautiful jewelry. Definitely check out their store and support them, because it truly is for a great cause.

2016-06-01 10.46.16 2016-06-01 10.46.36

I like to smell good, do you? So you really can’t ever go wrong with perfume in a subscription box. This is from GLOW for a cause. It’s a rollerball perfume in their scent wish and it smells spectacular. I didn’t even put a whole lot on my wrist when I first tried it this morning, and I can STILL smell it at 11 at night (iiiiiincredible). GLOW has more than just perfume though! They have candles, soaking salts, body care and even stuff for babies! GLOW donates 5% of purchases to a select non-profit (that you get to choose at checkout).

2016-06-01 10.47.06 2016-06-01 10.47.23 2016-06-01 10.47.59

Again, I’m a sucker for cute stationery like items. I was pumped when I saw this cute tent style calendar from Marie Mae. I love the gray textured cover and the illustrations for each month are super cute! Each product purchased from Marie Mae provides one hour of business education for women in emerging markets through the Marie Mae Business School. Their products are super adorbs and go to another great cause (man, I love companies that do good!)

highly HIGHLY recommend bonJOY if you’re looking for a new subscription box, or a cool box for someone you love. There’s lots of amazing things in the boxes and I’m sure you’ll feel better knowing that your purchase of the box helps women who are at-risk, exploited and trafficked around the world.

I hope you enjoyed the read & photos! 🙂

Let me know if you’re interested in bonJOY, you won’t regret it!

Xoxo,

Rae

Why I Made the Switch to Natural Deodorant

by

2016-06-01 10.57.38

Hey lovelies! I can’t believe that it’s June already, time is totally flying by. Today’s post is all about how and why I switched to natural deodorant (& why you should too!)

I was introduced into natural deodorant a few months ago, shortly after I transitioned into cruelty free beauty. I was looking for an alternative to the deodorant/antiperspirant that I was using from Degree, but I didn’t only change because I wanted something cruelty free – I realized how BAD antiperspirants are for you. Not to mention, I would always get gray marks on my light colored shirts from the antiperspirant which was really irritating because I ruined so many shirts. I decided to do some research and stumbled upon Schmidt’s natural deodorants, when I first found them, they only had one type of formula that included baking soda (which unfortunately made my arms irritated and I got a rash so stopped using it). They have two different formulas now, one for sensitive skin & their original. You can get the original formula in stick form or in a jar, and the sensitive formula in a stick. (For whatever reason, you get more product in the sensitive formula?)

Before we go any further, I want to compare ingredients between the two different deodorants (although one is an antiperspirant/deodorant – you get the point…)

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 8.26.22 PMHere are the ingredients of the old antiperspirant I used to use by Degree (Degree MotionSense in Fresh Energy, to be exact). This product scores a 9 on the carcinogenic meter (or dirty meter) in the Think Dirty app. There’s polyethylene in it, which is a non biodegradable micro plastic, so basically micro beads which they are now banning. (Why is this in my deodorant…?) BHT is also shown on the left and has been linked to endocrine dysfunction, tumor promotion and organ system toxicity…oh boy. I could go on, but I won’t. It’s actually quite frightening to find out what’s in your beauty products or what the products score on the dirty meter in Think Dirty (so I do recommend that you download it!) Not to mention, I can barely pronounce some of these ingredients. ((All information about these ingredients came straight from the Think Dirty app, so if something is not right, I apologize.))

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 8.26.44 PM

Here are the ingredients for the Geranium Sensitive stick. If I looked at this right, there’s only one ingredient that the two have in common, which is “fractionated coconut oil” (according to Schmidt’s). I’m very pleased that it’s aluminum free and free of parabens (which is something I look out for). These ingredients also sound more friendly (especially since they added common words to help identify what’s in their products!)

So I guess to really sum up why I switched to natural deodorant, is that in my opinion it’s better for you AND it works. I feel like there’s a concern for people that a natural deodorant won’t work for them and won’t keep them dry, but I do highly recommend Schmidt’s. If you have sensitive skin like I do, I would recommend the sensitive formula. Geranium is a gorgeous scent too, or you can grab Tea Tree or the fragrance free version (you won’t be disappointed). I would also like to point out, that I am a pretty heavy sweater and sometimes the Degree antiperspirant didn’t work extremely well for me, but Schmidt’s does a pretty damn good job at keeping me dry.

2016-06-01 10.57.47-1

Are you wanting to switch to natural deodorant? Let me know! If you have any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them to the best of my ability 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Xoxo, Rae

Disclaimer: I purchased both of these Schmidt’s deodorants with my own money. I am not being paid, sponsored or asked to do this post, I just wanted to share my experience and opinions!
