Zabana Essentials Haul + Mini Review

by

zabana1

Hey loves! It’s been a little while since I did my last haul and I’ve been promising on instagram that this one would be up soon (I’m just terrible at procrastinating, y’know!!)

So finally, it’s here! Let me tell you a little about Zabana Essentials. Zabana has 100% natural and vegan cosmetics that are handcrafted in California (I love stuff that’s made in the USA!) They have a range of products, like deodorants, a face serum, dry shampoo and even an armpit detox bar (say whaaa?!) I’ve been trying these out over the past few weeks & I’m hooked, so keep on reading to see what I got and what I like about them!

zabana2

I’m a sucker for anything mini sized and also natural deodorants! I was intrigued by the fragrances they have available and how some are baking soda free (which I need since baking soda irritates the crap outta me). These definitely aren’t your typical natural deo smells and I love that. I picked up Lime Berry Basil  and Sage Blood Orange. These are the perfect size to shove in your purse or backpack! I currently have the Lime Berry Basil one in my locker at work and I love freshening up with it, it smells so goooood. I do recommend these if you’re looking for a new natural deo or just want to stock up on some minis! (Plus! They’d be a great gift for someone who wants to delve into the natural deo/green beauty world *hint hint*)

zabana3

I live off of dry shampoo and don’t know what I would do without it. I haven’t tried a powder dry shampoo so that’s really why I picked this up! Plus, the scent caught my eye. It’s really easy to use – just sprinkle some on, let it sit then style per usual. (They recommend using a ‘natural bristled brush’ but I just use my regular hairbrush and it works fine. I also like to rub it in with my fingers). It smells great and does a really good job at making my hair look like it was just washed. I dooooo recommend!

zabana4

I wanted to try out their face sprays so I got both of the ones that they offer. Lavender Lemongrass is for combo + oily skin and helps to detoxify and balance the skin. Citron Blossom is for all skin types and brightens and rejuvenates the skin. I use one or the other depending on my face issues. Usually I like to use the Citron Blossom one before putting on my makeup to help get it ready for application. If you want, you can also use these as a cleanser (sort of) – just spray it on then use a cotton round to remove excess dirt and oil. I love that these are in glass bottles so I can reuse them when I finish them off! I really like these and do recommend them as well.

zabana6 zabana5

Then lastly, the Armpit Detox Bar! When using natural deo (or transitioning into natural deo), you may find that you don’t smell as fresh or that it’s not working…that’s why you need to detox yo’ pits! This is made with Coconut, Charcoal and Clay so it’ll really suck out all the junk stuck in your pit pores and leave you with squeaky clean pits 🙂 They say to wet the bar, lather it in your hands, rub the lather in your pits then let it sit for 2-3 minutes then rinse off. I have noticed a difference when using this – I smell fresher for longer and I just feel more comfortable wearing natural deodorant when I use it. It’s definitely a must have for natural deo users, so get one stat!

Overall, I was super pleased with my first purchase from Zabana. They have amazing cruelty free, vegan + natural products and I can’t wait to try out all of the other stuff they have to offer. Do you want to try out Zabana Essentials? Let me know!

Thanks for reading, as always <3

New Goodies from Profusion Cosmetics *

by

Hey lovelies! If you’ve been around for a while, you have probably seen my past post about Profusion cosmetics, if not – you can check it out here (I hope my picture taking has improved…) Well, I was lucky enough to be chosen again for their Insider Program! They sent me some new goodies (that don’t even seem to be on their website yet!) to try out and talk about what I like or what I don’t like. If you’re interested in hearing about some affordable makeup products, then keep on reading.

treasurebox3treasurebox2Eep! I love the packaging on this makeup palette. It’s quite large and has lots of products in it. I love the cheetah print on the package, you think it would look cheesy – but it really doesn’t. I think it gives it a nice feminine look! This palette has 35 eyeshadows, 10 lip glosses, 2 blushes, 1 bronzer + highlight, a couple small brushes and a wood eyeliner pencil.

treasurebox

I swear I took these pictures in natural daylight, but these pictures don’t seem to be doing the colors in this palette any justice. (I promise, they are a lot more vibrant in person!) I love the variety of colors in the shadows, you get a mix of mattes, shimmers and glitters. You have lots of options to make a bunch of looks! You get 10 lip glosses, (I’m not a huge fan of glosses + I swatched one of them and it wasn’t too pigmented) in a bunch of different colors to pair with your eye look. One of the blushes is a bright pink and would be great for glam looks and the other blush is more of a natural looking color, so it would be perfect for everyday looks. (P.s. they’re matte blushes too!) The bronzer is a nice cool toned brown, that’s not too light or too dark and the highlight shade is a little bit too dark for my skin tone (I would really call this just like a face powder). These are matte too! I ended up mixing the “highlight” and bronzer together to create a lighter color, I like the way it turned out. Here are some swatches…

treasureboxswatch

Here are some eyeshadow swatches (don’t mind the eczema on my arm lol). The colors are pigmented and very smooth, there was a little fall out but that’s fine with me. The colors are super buildable and look great. I think the peachy-pastel pink is my favorite but I need to test out some other colors too! (The pastel purple reminds me of the Wet N Wild spring eye trio, anyone else?)

bronzer

Here’s a swatch of the bronzer (just by itself, not mixed) and the natural blush color. These are super smooth! I love them.

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with this palette. I probably won’t be using the lip glosses, but that’s just me. I love the variety of shadow colors and how you can create a whole look without having to grab another palette (that’s what really sold me).

linersetlinerset2

I also got this set of 6 precision gel eyeliners, which I’m pretty excited to use. You get a matte black, matte brown, a bronze, gold, rose gold and a shimmery white liner.

liners liner

Here’s the packaging. I like the silver finish on these!

linerswatches

Here are the swatches of the liners: (bottom – top: black, brown, bronze, gold, rose gold, creamy beige). The brown was a little patchy and rough to lay down some color, but it eventually worked. I really like the shimmery liners, even though I think the colors could be better related to the liner names (if that makes sense…) The rose gold is more of a pale pink, but I’m okay with that. I don’t have these colors in my collection so I’m excited to play around with them. They say that they’re waterproof on the packaging, but I do have to disagree because they wiped off instantly with a makeup wipe, while ones from other brands that I have stay a little bit longer. I would recommend setting these with powder to get them to stay a little bit longer! They do glide smoothly, which I like and lay down enough color that’s noticeable.

Overall, I think these liners are okay. I wish some of them had a little more color impact and we’re more durable (pigmentation wise).

concealerkit2 concealerkit

This is the PRO Concealer kit! It has 5 different shades of concealers, 1 banana shade, 3 skin tone shades and a salmon color. The banana shade is good to brighten up areas on the skin, the skin tone ones are obviously there to conceal any unwanted marks on your face and the salmon one is good to color correct dark circles. Since I’m so pale, I used the third concealer in to cover up my dark circles with the brush in the kit and it worked really well! These are super creamy, they remind me of butter. I really like these! I just wish it would have included a green concealer and maybe a lavender one, rather than 3 skin tone shades. But overall, I think this is a great little kit to have to make your makeup look fabulous.

concealswatch

Here are swatches (they are swatched opposite of the way they appear in the palette). The banana shade almost doesn’t show up on me haha! I think the salmon shade would have been too dark for me to cover up my dark circles, but I think you can do a lot with this kit.

Overall, I love it! I think it’s super handy and I will be putting it to good use.

What do you guys think? Do you want to hear more about these products in a video, or tutorial? Let me know!

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Why I’m Putting Myself on a Spending Ban + Decluttering

by

It’s hard to save money, even if you try. Sometimes things just pop up and all of the money in your savings account is gone. Or, maybe you just have a spending/hoarding problem like I do.

I thought I’d go through my beauty collection (this is just makeup, I may do a hair care/body care post if you lovelies seem interested) and share with you what I have and why I don’t need to buy anything else to put into my collection. (I’m trying to hold back my tears right now…I love makeup.)

2016-07-06 11.30.15

Here are my makeup removing products! I use coconut oil, a micellar water and makeup wipes. I’ve had this jar of coconut oil for quite a while now and still have a lot of it. I use it to remove stubborn eye makeup (I have used it on my face as well), as a shaving cream alternative (if I ran out) and as a moisturizer. It’s a multi purpose item that I can’t live without. It’s inexpensive and doesn’t get used too quickly, so that’s why I don’t need another makeup removing product. Next is the Cactus Micellar Water from Pacifica. I really like this stuff to remove my foundation then follow up with a cleanser to deep clean the skin. It’s easy, provides a great clean, tones the skin and leaves you feeling refreshed (definitely do not use this on your eyes though). While I do love the micellar water so much, I’m not sure if I’ll be repurchasing it since it’s not a necessity because I do have other options to clean my face (like my Clarisonic, cleansers and coconut oil). I guess I’m also trying to cut down on the products that I have. And lastly, makeup removing wipes. I like  these a lot for when I’m doing swatches and removing my eye makeup, I do not like using these all over my face though since they leave a greasy feel. I do have two packs unopened, so that’s another reason why I don’t need another makeup removing product at the moment.

2016-07-06 11.32.13

Here are my face products, including foundations, primers and concealers. I have two primers at the moment, both from Too Faced. I have a sample of the Primed and Poreless, but I’m not a huge fan of it so it usually stays in my drawer. The Hangover primer on the other hand is my go to, but it is expensive, but so so worth it. I really only use it if I know I’ll be out all day to help it last longer for me! I don’t really wear foundation that often (so I’m not sure why I have two different ones…actually make that three, I forgot to add in my bareminerals). Lately, I’ve just been busy with work and on my days off I usually just hang around the house so I haven’t had much use for these foundations this summer (which is why I don’t need another, I need to stop eyeballing the Born This Way foundation from Too Faced ASAP!) I also have a white foundation to use as a mixer to make a shade light enough for my complexion. I have three skin tone concealers and one color corrector. I like the NYX one the most, since it’s light enough for my skin and gives a natural look. I feel like tarte’s oxidizes, so I don’t use it too often. The itCosmetics one was a sample that my sister passed on to me since it was too light for her – I haven’t tried it (yet again, another reason why I don’t need anything else!) The color corrector is from L.A. Girls and works well, I just don’t use it too often so I don’t need to buy a color correcting palette like I want to. I have one setting spray at the moment (hasn’t been opened) so I’m good in that department too. Mental note: Raeanne…no more face products.2016-07-06 11.32.24

2016-07-06 11.34.17

Alright, here’s my mascara collection (it was larger, but I did purge my makeup when moving back home from school). I have THREE Better Than Sex mascaras…THREE. Why do I need three!? Ugh. I first tried the BTS mascara as a sample and really liked it, so my sister decided to buy me another sample for Christmas – I haven’t touched the one she got me yet. I bought the waterproof version just to see if it would hold my curl better (it does) but I really don’t know why else I bought it, since I already have two that have barely been touched…I have no logic people! I have a mascara from Flower (this is like their 3-in-1, you can turn the dial and the wand moves/twists). I’m not a huge fan of this mascara since it’s so flakey, so I’m not even sure why I still have it. *sigh*. I have one from wet n wild that I use on lazy days/no makeup days. I’m also not a huge fan of this mascara either, but I do like the small wand for the lower lashes. I might end up tossing the Flower and the wet n wild mascaras since there is no point in keeping them. Then lastly, tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara sample. I got this in my skin squad discovery kit and I really like it. It gives a different effect than the BTS and that’s why I will be keeping it in my collection (plus, it’s relatively new to me too).2016-07-06 11.34.31

2016-07-06 11.35.41

Here are my eyeliners – which is another thing that I don’t wear all too often. I have three liquid black liners, two are fine line ones that dry matte and another has a vinyl finish which I’m not a fan of. I think I’ll keep the two fine liners and get rid of the Milani one that I don’t really like! I have one black pencil liner from Marc Jacobs that I got as a free gift for my birthday from Sephora, I think I’m just going to keep it to have incase I want to wear it. I have the NYX Wonder Pencil which is a nude liner, not sure why I have this because I don’t use it either. I also used it on my lips, so I don’t want to use it on my eyes. Might as well go in the trash! I have a dark blue pencil liner from Sumita that I got in a past glambag, haven’t used it but it’s going to stay in my collection just in case. I have two liquid liners from wet n wild, a bright blueish-purple and a dark blue liner. I like the bright blue and I have yet to experiment with the dark blue one – I will be keeping them since I don’t have anything else like them. The last two liners are from the Balm and Colourpop – they’re pretty similar in color but I like the formula from Colourpop way more. I’ll be keeping both of them. But here’s why I don’t need another eyeliner! They aren’t on my “top shelf” for everyday makeup.

2016-07-06 11.39.28-1

Lipsticks galore. As you can tell, I really like nude lip colors…infact I have way too many that look similar! I definitely will not be getting rid of any of my lipcolors, while I have a lot, I love them all. So I have quite a large collection from Colourpop, 3 ultra matte, 5 ultra satin, and 6 lippie stix. I love them (besides the matte ones), even though I have some colors that look similar. I have 4 soft matte lip creams from NYX and I like these, so I’m keeping them. I have two butter glosses in the same shade from NYX, not sure why I have two but I don’t really wear glosses much anymore. I’ll still keep them though just in case. I have one NYX liquid suede which I like and I don’t have a color *too* similar to it, since it shows up more burgundy/brown on me. I have two samples of Too Faced melted lipsticks – love them so they’re staying. In the white and pink box is a lip shimmer from My Sister (every purchase helps fight sex trafficking!) that I will be keeping since I don’t have anything else like it. I have two wet n wild lipsticks that I will be keeping cause I like them. I have 5 samples of some lip colors from different brands – keeping them and I hopefully will be able to use them up. A lip gloss from Ecco Bella in Peace is also staying with me, I want to try it out and see if it’ll be similar to a metallic lip – I’ll keep you updated. Lastly, a chubby lipstick from Profusion cosmetics that I will be keeping also because it’s the perfect everyday nude. BUT, in conclusion – I do not need another lipstick! I definitely need to stop buying shades that I already have ones similar to and I really need to start wearing lipsticks more often.

2016-07-06 11.39.34

2016-07-06 11.43.01-1

Here are all of my single eyeshadows. All of the ones on top were from glambags or other subscription services. I’m trying to use those ones up ASAP since they’ve just been collecting dust. I might challenge myself to use one of them for however long it takes to use it up. The Colourpop ones are new to me and are staying in my collection, but I really don’t need to buy myself another eyeshadow palette because I definitely have enough to last me a while.

2016-07-06 11.45.45

Here are my eyeshadow palettes! As you can see, I like nude colors again. I really do not need another eyeshadow since the collection I have between palettes + singles is large enough. I have a lot of similar colors so I will do my best to hit pan on some of them.

Yikes, I really didn’t realize how much makeup I had until planning this post. It’s actually shocking thinking about how much money I’ve spent on makeup (and I really don’t want to take a calculator to add it up).

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my post and maybe learned something (like the fact that you don’t need 20 different nude lip colors in 5 different finishes). You also don’t need anymore neutral eye palettes – so don’t fall for the hype anymore!

Thanks so much for reading (as always) <3

Makeup Edit: Everyday Beauty Essentials

by

boxfromcolourpopOnce or twice a year, it’s always a good idea to sort through your makeup bag. It provides an opportunity to get rid of expired products and restock. A good time to do this is at the beginning of summer and winter. You can update your colors accordingly.

This is just for the essential, everyday items. Those must-have products that you couldn’t live without.

Moisturizer

It’s a good idea to keep a pot of moisturizer in your makeup bag. It’s useful when your skin is dry, and you need a pick-me-up before retouching. Use a brand that matches your skin type, and opt for versions with a built-in SPF. If you can find a tinted moisturizer that works for you, this will save you some space.

Makeup Remover Pads

Though you’re unlikely to use them every day, it’s a good idea to keep a supply of makeup remover pads. If you need to remove your makeup, they will accomplish this in super-fast time. They come in handy where makeup becomes smudged.

bbsetBrushes

You don’t need to carry your full collection of brushes with you. Just pick a few essentials from the set. A wide blusher/powder brush is useful. Use it to apply powder and set your makeup in place. You can also use it for bronzing and highlighting. Smaller brushes for eyes and lips also come in handy.

hangoverprimer2

Primer

Don’t skimp on primer. If you think you don’t need it, compare the difference with and without it. Primer makes the skin appear smoother. When your foundation is applied, it provides a flawless finish. Once primer has been applied, your makeup will last longer.

Foundation

Your foundation cream is arguably the most important item in your toiletry bag. It can take some time to find the right brand and shade. When you do, keep hold of it. Foundation camouflages imperfections and enhances your skin. If you get this wrong, the whole look will be wrong.

Brow Gel

It’s difficult to remember a time when everyday makeup didn’t include brows. Eyebrows can dramatically alter the appearance of your face. Determining what works best for you is important. Brow gel is handy for everyday applications. Brands like Anastasia tinted brow gel can help make your eyebrows appear thicker and fuller. Plus, it is easy to apply.

swamp-queen-palette2

Eyeshadow Palette

Your eyeshadow palette should be made up of colors that complement your skin tone. This may change in the summer and winter months. Look at current makeup trends for inspiration. But don’t get too bogged down with them. Stick to what works for your skin tone and coloring.

meltedswatch

Lipstick

Your lipstick finishes the whole look. Without it, you can appear unpolished. Keep a few different shades in your bag. They should range from nude to stronger colors, depending on your mood. Keep a couple of matte options and a full-on lip gloss.

betterthansex

Mascara

There are so many brands of mascara to choose from. They range from simple tints to plumping formulas. Pick the type that works for you.

Powder

Translucent powder has several benefits. Sweep it across the face after applying your makeup. This will seal it and make it last longer. It is also useful to banish shine. Paper strips are also useful for quick touch-ups.

Have I missed anything? What are your go-to items? Leave your suggestions in the comments below.

Hope you enjoyed the post & thanks for reading!

ColourPop Haul with Swatches

by

boxfromcolourpop

Again, someone please take my debit card away from me…I can’t stop buying makeup! I love love love ColourPop so of course I had to buy some new goodies to try out and share with you all. ColourPop is one of my favorite brands because their products are so affordable and the quality is absolutely outstanding for what you pay. They have a variety of products ranging from lipsticks, eyeliners, eyeshadows, brow products and cheek/highlighter products. There is honestly something for everyone and their prices range from $5-$8 for a single item and usually $20+ if you are getting a collection of stuff. I picked up a variety of things (some products I have tried before and some I haven’t!)

colourpophaul

ColourPop usually warns that their processing + shipping time may be longer due to a higher demand, but I’ve never had a problem with their packages. Everything has been shipped out quickly and processed quickly too (I know that’s not the case for everyone.)

I picked up 8 items, one of them was an eyeshadow quad set that Kathleen Lights had collaborated with ColourPop to make.

wherethelightis1 wherethelightis2

wherethelightis3

I have tried their shadows before (Hanky Panky, to be exact) and I absolutely love the formula and how unique it is. They’re SO creamy and pigmented and have great wear power to them. They suggest to keep the packages closed tightly so the shadows don’t dry out.

glowcloseup

Here’s a close up shot of Glow from the Where The Light Is collection. I love the texture that’s on their shadows. I’m not sure how much product you get in each, but these colors can be bought individually.

kathleenlightswatch

Here are the swatches from the Where The Light Is collection that I labeled for you. Their matte shadows are truly matte and aren’t powdery on the skin because of their super awesome creamy formula. Glow and Cornelious are mattes and Blaze and KathleenLights are metallics/shimmers. I feel like you could create a couple looks with this quad set. Blaze is a super amazing color and I can’t wait to play with it! KathleenLights is also a super gorgeous copper color that I’m excited to play with too.

shadowswatch

And in case you didn’t believe me about their wear power…I used a makeup remover wipe on the swatches just minutes after swatching them and they stained me until I rubbed a little bit harder (I had to use a micellar water) but I’m definitely not complaining. I want shadows that won’t fade throughout the day.

cpweenie cpweenie2 cpweenie3

Showing some more love to Kathleen, here’s her shade Weenie (I’m really not sure why Weenie is showing up as a bronze color because it definitely is a beautiful rose gold shade).

cpweenieswatch

Here’s a swatch of Weenie on my pale arm! Looks a little more true to color here (I guess I won’t take my blog photos at night anymore!)

stoletheshow stoletheshow2 stoletheshow3This Super Shock Cheek Highlighter in Stole the Show was one of the different products I tried out. This was $8 but is bigger than the shadows. No cool texture on it though, like there is on the shadows, what a bummer. This has the same creamy, soft texture and formula like the shadows do. I really like this highlight because it’s not too showy/flashy and looks really nice on the skin. (I think I bought this because Jeffree Starr was raving about it).

stoletheshowswatch

This is a crappy iPhone quality photo, but my camera wasn’t doing my swatch pictures any justice. But it’s a very nice highlight for my fellow pale girls (or even those who like white highlights!)

showmeliner showmeliner2

I also have never tried their liners before so I really wanted to, since I’ve heard good reviews. I picked up Show Me from their créme liner collection (they have the liners in gel form too!) I was seriously SO surprised how well this liner sat on my waterline. I’ve always had issues with my liner rubbing off my waterline and making a mess, or creating a ring around my contact lens…this liner was amazing. It stayed put all day, literally. Fully intact, didn’t fade, didn’t more. It was awesome! I wore it on my waterline and as a winged liner one day too, and even with me fiddling with my eyes (I’m an eye rubber) it really didn’t smudge or fade. I’m really amazed and now I want every color of liner they have. I highly recommend this color (& it looks great with blue eyes, totally made mine POP!)

showmelinerswatch

Here’s a swatch of Show Me liner. It’s so creamy and pigmented and smooth and dreamy and ahhhh, I love it.

showmelinerswatch2

I wanted to compare Show Me to a higher end brand liner I have which I swatched below ColourPop’s liner. It’s the Jac B. Bronze liner from theBalm. It’s $17 and probably has the same amount of product as ColourPop’s liners. I prefer the ColourPop one for three reasons: the price difference, the pigmentation and how creamy their formula is (theBalm’s formula is a little stiff and hard to work with).

grungelippie grungelippie2

I’ve tried their lippie stix before and have shown you some swatches on le blog and on my YouTube channel. I wanted to try out a new color for fall, so I got Grunge, which is honestly a really intimidating color for me since I’m so pale. I haven’t tried it on my lips yet, but I did swatch it on my hand and it looks like it would be a great color for fall. It’s definitely that 90’s babe color. It’s also a matte finish, which I do like, but only in their lippie stix (me + the ultra matte lips do not get along). Although it is matte, it applies creamy and smooth and dries down well. They have great staying power + staining power, so keep the coconut oil handy to help get the color off!

grungeswatch

Here’s a poorly lit swatch of GrungeI’m glad to have it in my collection since I haven’t had a color like this before.

ultrasatinlips

And lastly, I bought three new ultra satin lips to add to my collection. I got Dopey, Spritz and LittlestitiousI love the ultra satin lips, because they aren’t too glossy and aren’t too matte – I would really call them like a semi-matte finish, but it looks natural. They aren’t transfer proof but they are a perfect formula for everyday wear. I wish they had more colors in the ultra satin line, but I’m sure that they’re working on it! I apparently like pinky/purpley colors on the lips, since my two other ultra satin lips aren’t too far off in color (I’m really good at buying similar colors).

ultrasatinlipswatch

Another poorly lit swatch photo, they definitely aren’t this deep/dark in person – but they are beautiful shades and if you are considering buying some, I definitely recommend the colors I got!

Are you a fan of ColourPop? What’s your favorite product from them? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed the post!

Rae
