Skin Troubles? Go Au Naturale

If you constantly have issues with your skin, then it is most likely a problem with your body reacting to substances that you put on your face, or in the atmosphere or that you are consuming on a daily basis. You might think that if you have bad skin, you’re just unlucky, but that’s not usually true. While some people do have medical issues that affect the look and feel of their skin, other people can correct their issues by changing their lifestyle. Let’s look at some examples of this and explore the changes you can make to vanquish skin issues for good.

Natural beauty

Admittedly, this is a daunting possibility and one that many people will certainly shy away from. However, saying goodbye to makeup could be the best choice for your skin. Makeup is often filled with chemicals and substances that are not natural. As such, they can be dangerous to your skin causing reactions. Makeup is also filled with oils that diminish the natural oils on your skin that gives you a beautiful complexion. Most people find that when they start to stop using makeup after a long period of time, their skin looks like a disaster zone. That’s just because you’ve damaged it over the years of using makeup repeatedly. Particularly, if you are one of those individuals who doesn’t bother to wash it off at the end of the day.

If you don’t want to stop using makeup completely, try using natural makeup products. These don’t contain chemicals or manmade materials and as such are better for your skin. Or try and reduce the level of makeup you use. Concealer and foundation should be avoided as much as possible as it clogs up your pores and doesn’t give your skin room to breathe.

A Natural Diet

You might think that you have genetically inherited your issues with acne and it’s true, you may well have. But, you could also be making it worse due to a bad diet. For instance, you could love your soda pops. As you know, these are filled with sugar and sugar causes your body to produce the hormone that makes your pores fill up with that white substance that results in spots. As such, by cutting back on levels of sugar, you can definitely improve the look and feel of your skin. You might also want to try drinking more water. This can help you clear out your skin and get rid of the dirt and grease in your pores.

You may also want to explore the possibility of an allergic reaction or intolerance to certain foods. An unknown allergy or intolerance can certainly cause skin issues like acne. Common culprits are milk, chocolate, and nuts. The best way to find out whether food is playing a part is with a food elimination test. That way, you can remove all the food you think might be causing the issue from your diet and add it back in gradually. By doing this, you might discover the real cause behind your bad skin. If in any doubt, cut processed food out and stick to an all natural diet. You should definitely see an improvement.

Natural Cleaning

You might also want to look at the cleaning products you use on your face and skin. For instance, you may be using one of the most soap brands. However, again this could be a mistake because it is, like makeup, often filled with chemicals. They’re great for keeping your skin clean, but they often have unwanted side effects such as causing dry skin. Instead, you should use cleaning products made of natural materials like goat milk soap. Exactly as it sounds, this product is made of goat milk, and it’s far better for your skin. You’ll find that it retains the moisture while getting rid of the dirt and grease. Of course, it’s not just about how you wash your face.

You need to think about your hair too. If you don’t have the long thick locks of a movie star, you’re probably using some form of shampoo to give your hair a volume boost and perhaps a conditioner. The problem is that these are often thick substances that quickly clog up your pores, giving you problems with your skin around your hairline. This can quickly spread to your forehead because obviously your hair falls across your head or rests on it when you sleep. It’s one of the reasons why some people go to sleep with clear skin and wake up with a full blown breakout. If you want to avoid this issue, try using vegetable oil in your hair instead. This really does work, and it’s far better for your skin.

I hope you enjoyed the post and that you found some of these tips helpful! Fight your acne breakouts and dry skin issues by keeping things totally natural 🙂

All-Natural Spring/Summer Skincare | Guest Post

Spring is in full swing, and summer is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing – it is high time you up your skincare game and make some changes in comparison to the skin regimen that was ruling during wintertime. The popularity of organic and natural skincare companies and their products is soaring through the roof – and with good reason, as with natural you know your skin is safe from potentially harmful chemicals and tended to gently and with tenderness. As much as we are appreciative of this new trend and the fact that companies care about the environment and the safety of our skin, why not bring your skincare game to an even higher level and make some of the beauty concoctions in your very own home? Test these recipes that have been tried and tested, and we guarantee, your skin will adore them. The ultimate goal is to stay safe, even save some money, and ultimately simplify your skincare routine without compromising quality.

First things first

Whichever number of steps your skincare routine entails, everyone is always in need of a great facial wash, and it is easier to make than you might think. This recipe includes ingredients that help clarify and tone the skin, as well as ingredients that are extra-gentle and help maintain skin’s natural balance, making it suitable for even those with the most sensitive of skins.

Here is what you need:  1 cup filtered or previously boiled (now room temp) water. 1/4 cup liquid castile soap; all-natural, extremely concentrated soap made from 100% plant oils. 5 teaspoons of jojoba oil followed by 2 tablespoons of raw honey: a wonderful antibacterial that helps to gently eliminate breakout-causing bacteria, and also helps calm the skin. This gives the wash its honey color. Next in line is 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil: another great, all-natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal that will not only help kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin, but also help preserve the wash. 15 drops lavender essential oil: great for all skin types, it helps calm inflammation and eliminates bacteria. Finally, 10 drops rosemary essential oil: another great, all-natural antibacterial.

One thing to bear in mind is that the ingredients should be added in the order they were listed. Stir the mixture gently, mixing everything together, pour into an empty face-wash container and voila! One or two pumps will be more than sufficient as the wash is very concentrated, which also means it will last a long time.

Next in line…

Is of course, toner! Easy to make, and with fewer ingredients than the wash, and you probably have the ingredients in your pantry. Here goes; you need 3-4 tablespoons of chopped fresh mint 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar and 1 and a quarter cups of water. Place the mint and apple cider vinegar in a small mason jar or some other jar with a screw-top lid and let it sit at room temperature for a week. The mint will infuse the vinegar and give it a lovely scent. Strain the mixture into a large measuring cup and add the water. Stir well and pour into a clean bottle or jar and store in a cool place and apply every day with a cotton ball or cotton pads. There are a lot of other wonderful recipes for different conditions and skin types you should try and find the one that works for you.

Lock in moisture

Unfortunately, there are some products we cannot concoct at home. One of those are moisturizers that both lock in moisture and serve to even your skin tone and bring out your natural glow. Luckily, among many brands that offer synthetic products, there are more and more companies that have turned to providing natural skincare products that are safe for you to use and give amazing results at nourishing and protecting your skin. One such product is Dr Hauschka Moisturizing Day Cream that even organic and natural-loving celebs like Jennifer Aniston swear by due to its amazing soothing effects. If you cannot make it – buy it, but be sure to buy natural products with a list of ingredients you can actually pronounce and you know with absolute certainty are safe and effective.

Bonus round of love

This product is not something we use (or should use) on daily basis, but it is one that shows your skin just how much you love it by providing some extra pampering once a week. You’ve probably guessed it – it is face mask we are talking about, and the one we have in store for you is super easy to make. Its main ingredient is – honey! Honey is a wonderful ingredient for natural homemade facial masks as it is a natural humectant, attracting moisture to the skin, and has valuable skin care benefits, helping to protect, restore and rejuvenate the skin. For all skin types, the best mixture is 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and one egg yolk. Mix the ingredients until you get a homogenous paste, then simply apply and keep for twenty minutes, after which you just gently remove the mask using warm water. Fresh, soft and replenished skin in less than half an hour!

Here you have it ladies, easy-peasy, so do not waste any time, get those hands busy and start stirring your new favorite products.

Nip + Fab Review *

Hey my loves! I hope you’re doing fantastic. Today I have a special post for you about Nip + Fab! I’ve done a review on some of their products in the past, which you can read here. Nip + Fab is cruelty free, affordable and available at Ulta or CVS (plus on their website!)

Nip + Fab has makeup, skincare, bodycare and even products formulated for the gents.

Glycolic Fix Night Pads // $15

I’m a huge fan of the daily glycolic fix pads, so when I saw that they had a night version too I was super excited! Formulated with glycolic acid, lactic acid, hyaluronic acid and salicylic acid -these exfoliating facial pads will refine your pores, brighten your complexion, and decongest your skin. These pads seriously pack a punch! I have sensitive skin, so I only use them once a week but I’ve noticed a difference in my skin – it’s smoother and looks clearer. They don’t burn or irritate my skin, which I was worried about. I was also worried that they would dry my skin out too much, but they don’t. I do recommend them if you want to incorporate something new into your skincare routine. They’re affordable and effective!

Glycolic Cleansing Fix // $8

When I first saw this I thought it was a toner, but it’s actually a cleanser. It has glycolic acid in it to retexture and resurface the skin while the olive oil in it hydrates and smooths your skin. I use it after I get out of the shower, while my skin is still damp. I really focus on my problem areas (my chin and around my mouth) to make sure that I get all of the gunk out of my pores. This has really helped with my hormonal acne and I do recommend! P.s. A little goes a long way 🙂

Glycolic Fix Radiance Shot // $20

This is a highly concentrated serum that will resurface your skin, reduce the appearance of pigmentation, and will stimulate cell renewal so you’ll look younger and feel better about yourself! I’m happy to say that I’ve incorporated this into my daily routine, I apply it in the morning before moisturizer and it gives me such a nice glow.

Post-Glycolic Fix Moisturizer // $19

This moisturizer is a must-have for me! It’s the last step for my morning glycolic skincare routine. Not only does it have SPF in it to save your skin from harmful UV rays, it also has ingredients to calm + soothe your skin plus it also helps to control oil-buildup throughout the day! It smells great, feels great and my skin loves it. I’m sure yours will too! 🙂

Overall – Nip + Fab is an amazing skincare brand that’s surely becoming my favorite. I can’t wait to try out some of the their other products.

Have you tried anything from Nip + Fab? Let me know if you have or if you want to! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the post.

Don’t Battle With Your Blackheads – Banish Them For Good!

All of us have suffered from blemishes and breakouts at some point during our lives. They can rock our self-confidence and leave us feeling low and isolated. At worst acne can come in the form of painful cysts which cover our faces, backs, and necks. At best you might be breakout-free but suffer from the occasional blackhead. Blackheads are notoriously difficult to budge and are tempting to pick at. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about blackheads and how to banish them for good…

What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads can be a bit more bothersome than other spots, mainly because of their color. The dark color of these spots makes them easier to notice and harder to conceal. These spots get their unusual color because they oxidize. Unlike other spots, a blackhead is an open comedo. This means it is exposed to air, which oxidizes it and turns it black. Whiteheads are closed comedones and aren’t exposed to air so remain white. Blackheads form in the same way as other spots. A mixture of dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum mix together in a pore to clog it and cause a spot.

How Can We Get Rid Of Them?

It is possible to treat blackheads, but it can take some time. If you’ve ever wondered why blackheads don’t seem to budge and thought you were going crazy, you weren’t. Blackheads are so difficult to get rid of because we get no help from our bodies. Blackheads may look unsightly but unlike other spots, they pose no risk or threat to us. So our bodies don’t help us fight them in any way. So we’re all on our own with these ones! Salicylic acid is the holy grail ingredient when it comes to dealing with blackheads. This treatment gently exfoliates your skin, getting rid of dead skin cells and encouraging the production of new ones. In effect, it unclogs pores and leaves them clean. Over the counter treatments and face washes are a good way to start. Use these formulas twice a day.

Alternatively, try using leave-on masks and pinpoint treatments on your blackheads. has lots of reviews and recommendations about the best products to use on acne-prone skin. If you really can’t shift your blackheads you can also seek professional help. A doctor will be able to remove the blackhead by extracting it. This is only to be done under clinical conditions, don’t try it at home!

Are There Any Side-Effects?

It is easy to overdo it with salicylic acid. The formula can be incredibly drying and left on the skin for too long you may see some redness. Experiencing and itchy, tight, or uncomfortable sensation isn’t uncommon either. Most likely your skin needs some time to adjust. Lessen the amount of product you’re using if you have any of these symptoms. When your skin calms down you can gradually build it back up again.

My Winter Skincare Routine

Hey lovelies! If you’ve been here for a while, you know how I suffer from dry skin, so I thought I would share with you the products I’ve been loving to keep it under control. These aren’t drugstore products, but they’re worth ordering online and paying a few extra bucks to get high quality cruelty free products!

Tarte Deep Dive Cleansing Gel | $25

One of the things that’s most important for your skin is to clean it, but some cleansers can leave you feeling dry and make your skin conditions worse BUT this deep dive cleansing gel from Tarte is fabulous for dry skin. I’m so happy that they released the Rainforest of the Sea collection because the products from the line are pretty great. This cleanser removes stubborn waterproof makeup and deeply cleanses, while the skin loving ingredients replenish the skin to leave you with a brighter complexion! I love starting off my skin care regime with this.MyChelle Perfect C Serum | $44 (I got this full size version in a Love Goodly box!)

I feel like a lot of people are afraid to use serums but they can be really good for your skin. This serum is pricey, but a little bit goes a long way so it is worth it in my opinion. It helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, brighten the skin and protect from photo-damage. You only need to use one pump and I use the palms of my hands to press it into my skin and you can layer this with other serums, which is cool too.

Derma E Hydrating Day Creme | $30

I have to give this product a lot of props. I received this as a gift from Derma E to review, which you can read here and it’s something that I’m still using! I will definitely be repurchasing when I run out. It’s vegan and cruelty free and doesn’t irritate my skin like other moisturizers I’ve tried. After applying the vitamin C serum, I apply this. You don’t need a ton of product for your skin to feel hydrated. It also plumps the skin to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, so when paired with the serum it kicks wrinkles’ butts. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a new moisturizer. It’s a little bit heavy at first, but soaks into the skin in minutes. I can’t live without it now, it’s that good.

So, after my morning routine is done, I finish my day then it’s time to start my nighttime routine. I normally don’t wear foundation lately (just because I’m at work a lot, but as school comes around – I most likely will be), so it’s not necessary for me to do a deep cleanse like I do in the morning. I opt for the Alba Botanica Hawaiian 3-in-1 Wipes (which I can usually find at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for $4 a package) to use on my face. They remove makeup, cleanse the skin and act as a toner. I really like them because they leave my skin feeling clean and fresh without too much effort. I like to use the  e.l.f. Makeup Cleansing Cloths to remove my eye makeup because they’re gentle! For days that I do wear a full face of makeup though, I do use a liquid facial cleanser to make sure there’s no residue left on my skin.

Zabana Essentials Lavender Lemongrass Face + Body Tonic $13

I use this face and body tonic from Zabana when I feel like I need something, you know what I mean? I especially like to use this at night since the lavender is so calming and helps me relax. I spray this on and let it soak in before putting on my nighttime moisturizer.

Derma E Hydrating Night Cream | $30

Here we go with another product targeted to hydrating the skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (I better not have a damn wrinkle for my whole life). Hyaluronic acid is my favorite and when I was using a gel moisturizer with HA being the main ingredient in it, I got so many compliments on my skin. It gives you a brighter and younger looking appearance and leaves your skin soooo soft. It’s a must have in my skin regime and I’d be lost without it. My skin looks so good the next morning and I love waking up feeling great.

Lanoliné Manuka Honey Eye Cream | $10-$12

I picked up this gem from Marshalls one night and I’m really glad I did. It’s formulated to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and hydrates the under eye area. I also like this because it helps to make me look more awake, since it has a plumping effect on the skin. I use this at night since I’ve discovered that it doesn’t sit well under makeup. You just need a little dip on your finger for both eyes so a little bit goes a long way.

I didn’t know where to add this into the post, so I’ll just call it an extra! This is a “scrublet” (I guess that’s what you call it?) that I got in a set of two from TJ Maxx. I really like using this with the Deep Dive Cleansing Gel for a deeper clean. The little nubs help to knock out dirt from your pores and really get into all of the nooks & crannies of your face. They also act as a gentle exfoliator so your dry skin will vanish, woot wooot.

Derma E Purifying Daily Detox Scrub $15

I also didn’t know where to add this since it’s not something I use daily, but I do use it when I feel like I need something else and a good exfoliation. It has a really cool cooling effect on the skin and works really well. I feel like it gives me a radiant look after using it, so that’s another reason why I like it.

I think that’s pretty much all I use on a daily/semi-daily basis. What’s your favorite skincare product? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the post!
