My Favorite Cruelty Free Products Under $10

Hey lovelies! I’ve been kind of in a blogging funk lately, but I’m working on it. I’m trying to have back up posts so that when I really can’t think of what to blog, I can just post those instead. I’m thinking about either making a video or a blog post (or both) about why I want to go on a spending ban (mainly for beauty products), does that sound interesting to anyone?

But anyways, here I’m going to show you a few items $10 and under that I love and that are cruelty free!

Milani Prep + Set + Go Transparent Powder ($9.99)

I bought the Milani powder a couple months ago to replace a non-cruelty free translucent powder that I had and I really really love it. It’s a great setting and mattifying powder that doesn’t overdry the skin. I try to focus this underneath my eyes to set my concealer, just because if I put it all over my face it does make it feel dry and tight (but I think that’s just because I have such dry skin). I think it would be great for those of you with oily skin or if you have an issue with your makeup sliding off.

Hask Hair Bamboo Oil Shampoo + Conditioner ($6 each)

I love love LOVE Hask’s products and now my sister has found a new love for them too. I love how inexpensive their products are. The quality is absolutely superb for what you pay and I don’t think I’ll ever switch to another hair care brand. I’m currently using up the Bamboo Oil collection that I have and I think I will be purchasing the Keratin collection once I use this set up!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6) Stockholm is pictured above.

NYX is extremely affordable and they have a wide variety of products. I’m a huge fan of their lip products, especially their soft matte lip creams. They have decent lasting power and come in a ton of different colors. I love them because they aren’t drying on the lips and aren’t too matte (to the point where you have cracking lips). I think they’re a staple lip product.

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter ($8) Stole The Show is pictured above.

Colourpop has been one of my go to brands lately, because of their price and quality. I picked up one of their highlighters and fell in love and now I’m always reaching for it. They have a ton of unique colors and a couple different finishes so I definitely think they’re worth checking out!

Pacifica Kale Detox Face Cleanser ($10)

Pacifica is my favorite skin care brand. They have masks, cleansers, and moisturizers and they even have some makeup products. I love love love their cleansers because they aren’t too drying on the skin, they smell great & they do their job. Definitely worth the money!

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip ($6) Echo Park is pictured above.

Again, I love Colourpop and their Ultra Satin Lipsticks are my go-to now. I have a couple different colors from them and I love every single one of them. I feel like they’re super wearable and comfortable on the lips (I didn’t like the ultra mattes – so these are the

tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation + Aquacealer Review

I’ve been meaning to post this review for a while now (I kept teasing my instagram followers about it, but it’s finally here!) I guess I just really wanted to try out the products more than once and give a decent review for you all.

tarte has quickly become one of my favorite brands. Their products are vegan and cruelty free (they are owned by a parent company though). They have tons of different makeup products and skincare products and I literally want everything they have. (Plus, their packaging is awesome).

I decided to pick up the Rainforest of the Sea water foundation, since I do have dry skin. I’m also not a huge fan of foundations since sometimes I feel like they’re too “heavy” on my face, so when I saw that this was a lightweight foundation I just had to pick it up. Their website states that this foundation is: “A lightweight, full coverage hydrating foundation infused with tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex and non-chemical SPF 15 sunscreen.”

I’m also super happy that it has a non-chemical SPF in it, and this foundation is honestly exactly what I’ve been looking for. They have 12 shades and a very disappointing selection of darker shades (WTH tarte?) You get 1 ounce of product for $39 (I bought it with a 30% off coupon they had). It has a dropper which was new to me, but I kind of like it.

IMG_1240IMG_1262 IMG_1250

I have the lightest shade available (fair neutral) but it’s not quite light enough for me, so I do have to add a foundation mixer to it. I honestly love this foundation. It looks like skin, it’s not cakey and doesn’t cling to my problem areas on my face. It feels so lightweight and doesn’t feel tacky on the skin once it’s dry (one of the things that I dislike about foundations). I don’t apply a primer when I use this, but it’s not really necessary since this foundation stays put all day. It’s honestly a dream for dry skin and I probably won’t try anything else now.

IMG_1242 IMG_1246 IMG_1249

Here is what tarte’s website says that the aquacealer: “A lightweight, 12-hour concealing serum offering buildable, medium coverage with skin-soothing benefits.”

There are 6 shades of the aquacealer, again the lightest one still being a little bit too dark for me, but I do manage to make it work. I love the applicator for the concealer and how lightweight it is. I’m not going to lie, I really don’t think that it has “buildable” medium coverage, I would definitely say that it’s light coverage (although I really haven’t tried to build it up). It does crease since it’s water based, so make sure to set your under eye area right away. I’ve noticed that it really doesn’t stay put all day and that my dark circle start to peek through (maybe I need to try the color correcting palette from this line, but anyways). I do enjoy it though, I don’t use it on acne spots just because it isn’t an amazing color for me, but it does do a good job to brighten up the eyes when first applied.

Overall, I really do like these two products and do recommend them if you’re looking for a light weight foundation with pretty good coverage. The color selection isn’t huge, but maybe tarte will expand that someday? We can only hope.

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you enjoyed the post!

2016-06-01 10.39.51 2016-06-01 10.40.10

Hey lovelies! How are you doing today? Good? Great! I’m doing fabulous.

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 10.23.43 PM

(from their website)

Today I wanted to show you a special box, that I’m very happy that I found. bonJOY is a monthly or seasonal box filled with goodies that DO GOOD! (They also have bitty bundles that contain a few items and are the perfect gift item.)

You may think that slavery is a thing of the past – but think again. Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, either for forced labor or sex trafficking. Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern-day slavery. (Source) It’s a scary and a real thing. The products in these monthly or seasonal boxes do good for trafficked, exploited and at-risk women around the world and that’s something that I totally support. I’m all about empowerment, and helping others in need.

Now that you’ve heard the story, I’m sure you want to see what’s in this little box of good

2016-06-01 10.41.13

Above is an inspirational quote, which was designed by Cassandra from Chic for Good (her blog is great, so do check it out!) I love cute stationery that I can hang up near my desk (which I will be doing with this).

2016-06-01 10.41.46

On the back of the print from Chic for Good lists all of the products in the box and displays the current give-back partner (they donate $1 from every box to the partner and you have the option to make a donation as well).

2016-06-01 10.42.54-2

Here’s a ton of information about the products/companies featured in this month’s box that was in the yellow envelope!

2016-06-01 10.44.21

First up is this himalayan sea salt bath soak (that smells fabulous!) Revive donates a portion of every sale to provide job training skills to women exiting the trafficking trade. Revive has tons of different types of soaps, bath soaks, lip balms and other bath goodies.

I’m a sucker for jewelry, so take a look at this super simple, but super chic vegan bracelet from BADALABADALA has housewares and beautiful jewelry. Definitely check out their store and support them, because it truly is for a great cause.

I like to smell good, do you? So you really can’t ever go wrong with perfume in a subscription box. This is from GLOW for a cause. It’s a rollerball perfume in their scent wish and it smells spectacular. I didn’t even put a whole lot on my wrist when I first tried it this morning, and I can STILL smell it at 11 at night (iiiiiincredible). GLOW has more than just perfume though! They have candles, soaking salts, body care and even stuff for babies! GLOW donates 5% of purchases to a select non-profit (that you get to choose at checkout).

Again, I’m a sucker for cute stationery like items. I was pumped when I saw this cute tent style calendar from Marie Mae. I love the gray textured cover and the illustrations for each month are super cute! Each product purchased from Marie Mae provides one hour of business education for women in emerging markets through the Marie Mae Business School. Their products are super adorbs and go to another great cause (man, I love companies that do good!)

highly HIGHLY recommend bonJOY if you’re looking for a new subscription box, or a cool box for someone you love. There’s lots of amazing things in the boxes and I’m sure you’ll feel better knowing that your purchase of the box helps women who are at-risk, exploited and trafficked around the world.

I hope you enjoyed the read & photos! 🙂

Let me know if you’re interested in bonJOY, you won’t regret it!

Petit Vour May 2016 Unboxing

2016-05-26 19.27.27

Hey lovelies! I just received my first Petit Vour box, full of cruelty free & vegan goodies, so I thought I would share it with you.

So, Petit Vour is $15/month (US) or $23/month (Canada) but you can cancel at anytime! You get 4 products (some are generous samples & some are even full sized). Kind of like ipsy, you get points for reviewing items, and making purchases.  Everything is non-toxic, cruelty free, vegan & ethically made…it’s honestly a no brainer. (PLUS, you even get 20% back as a store credit whenever you make a purchase with them).

2016-05-26 19.31.14

Here’s a closer look at what I got in my box!

2016-05-26 19.28.322016-05-26 19.29.05

I think that the card this month was beautifully illustrated (as they are every month). I love how they tell you what you get, how much it costs if you wanted to purchase the full size, and how to use it.

2016-05-26 19.31.442016-05-26 19.31.59

This is the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel. It’s supposed to exfoliate the skin to help even out texture and tone the skin. It also clears the skin while rejuvenating it with aloe, vitamins & antioxidants. I assumed that this was going to smell like sour green apple (a taste/smell that I hate) but was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t! The smell isn’t really describable, but it’s not foul. I am excited to try this out.

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Hair Spray

Okay, I’m SUPER excited to try this out. I used to love NYM’s sea salt spray, until I found out that it’s pretty toxic (through the Think Dirty app). I am trying to avoid products that are toxic and I’m leaning towards more green products. I love sea salt spray and the texture that it adds to my hair. It pretty much styles your hair effortlessly. I think the label on the bottle is super adorable and I can’t wait to feel like a mermaid when I use it!

Smart Ash Teeth Whitener & Detoxifer

I’m just going to assume that you’ve seen all of these charcoal DIY tutorials on YouTube lately (and if you haven’t there are quite a lot! Ranging from teeth whiteners, to face masks and I’m sure there’s a lot more…) So this is an all natural tooth whitening powder containing activated coconut shell charcoal, bentonite clay, organic orange peel extract, organic frankincense & organic mint extract. I do have some trouble (or insecurities I should say) about my teeth and their color, so I am super stoked to try this out, since I’ve heard that people have had good experiences and results. (Have you tried oil pulling? What are your experiences with that? Let me know!)

2016-05-26 19.34.02 2016-05-26 19.34.20 2016-05-26 19.35.21

And last, but not least is this Ecco Bella Good For You Gloss in the color Peace (they also had the color Power, which is a red but I received Peace in my box). I like the packaging (even though some people might think the mirror is tacky or totally 90’s, but I don’t). It doesn’t smell like cupcakes/vanilla frosting like most glosses do, so I am pleased with that. It does have a lot of shimmer to it, and I can’t tell if I like that yet or not. The gloss isn’t too sticky (although I haven’t tried it on my lips yet, but I feel like I could incorporate it into some cool Aries zodiac look).

Overall, I was pretty pleased with my first Petit Vour box! I will be keeping my subscription for the month of June, but if I’m not too “wowed” by June, I probably will unsubscribe. (I’m definitely not unsubscribing because I didn’t like the products or the box, I think that this box is worth it, I just need to save money instead of spending it. I do enjoy subscription boxes though, since you get a little taste of multiple products, usually for a smaller cost of a full size version of one of the products in the box.)

Are you subscribed to Petit Vour? What did you get in your box this month? (If you aren’t, what did you get in your other monthly subscription box/bag? Let me know :)! )

Thanks so much for reading, I hope you have an awesome day!

Xo, Rae

HASK Bamboo Oil Collection | Review *

IMG_1225IMG_1231You guys know how much I love HASK’s products…it’s nearing an addiction phase. I was thrilled that I got the opportunity to try out their Bamboo Oil collection that’s specifically for strengthening your hair. Here’s what HASK says about this collection on their website…

“It’s time to add strength training to your hair care routine! Fortify fragile hair and defend against damage and breakage with HASK Bamboo Oil Strengthening collection. The line features a Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioner and Shine Oil, all formulated with ProDefense Complex that penetrates hair to strengthen, reinforce and protect. Bamboo oil, known as one of Asia’s natural treasures, is proven to strengthen hair and deliver essential nutrients that revive weakened and lifeless strands. Combined with biotin and collagen, silicon-rich bamboo oil gives hair a strong foundation, improves flexibility and prevents split ends. So damage caused by every day styling is a thing of the past!”
I don’t know about you, but I start by shampooing my hair first (I know some people who condition first, but I ain’t about that life). This Bamboo Oil Strengthening Shampoo is like magic. It left my hair feeling so smooth and soft (per usual with HASK’s products). It also felt like it had a different texture to it after I rinsed out the shampoo, kind of like it instantly transformed my hair, but maybe that’s just me.
The conditioner really helped to keep my hair feeling soft and smooth, also helped reduce my frizziness without making my hair look or feel oily or greasy (which is important to me). These two work amazingly together, and the ingredients in both with help strengthen your hair in no time!

You might use a mask for your face, but did you know that your hair needs a mask sometimes too? HASK has lots of different hair masks and they have one in this collection too! I’ve used their masks before on nights when I wanted to pamper myself. They come in convenient pouch that comes with 1.75 oz of product, if you have short hair like me, you can definitely get more than one use out of the single pouch. They say to use it 1-2 times a week and to leave it on for 10 minutes (on clean wet hair) then rinse your hair thoroughly. These masks really help to repair your hair and thoroughly nourish all of your locks without leaving your hair greasy or weighed down from residue, it’s a win win.

Hair oils are good to give your hair a little extra TLC and to help reduce frizz and fly aways. I like to use a small amount of oil on my dry hair before leaving for the day. It makes me look polished and like I didn’t just roll out of bed (even though I totally did). This hair oil is great, just like the other one I’ve tried from HASK and I definitely will be using it daily (so I hope they come out with a full size soon 😉 HMU HASK when you do!)

P.s. How cute is this bag I got too!? I used the other one I got while traveling to hold my toiletries and it was awesome! I will definitely put this one to good use too.

So that’s all for today, I hope you enjoyed reading!
